A Pocketful of Sympathy. / Friends From Nebraska (you were a wonderful and kind person )
A pocketful of sympathy
is really rather wonderful
to stop a scratch from stinging
or a bruise from black and bluing.
A pocketful of sympathy
can stop a heart from hurting
or catch a tear from falling
like a raindrop down a cheek.
A pocketful of sympathy
costs absolutely nothing
It's the cheapest kind of plaster
you'll ever find
And a pocketful of sympathy
is like Kevin's love and kindness
because the more you give it away
the more you leave it behind.

I am now at rest........ / My Loving Family And Friends Think Of Me As One At Rest. (Me ( Kevin) )
Think of me as one at rest.
For me you should not weep,
I have no cares, no troubled thoughts,
for now I am asleep.
The living breathing me that was
is now forever still,
And time goes on without me
as time forever will.
Those of you who liked me
I sincerely thank you all,
And those of you who loved me
I thank most of all.
It matters not if time began,
if time will ever cease ?
I was here, I used it all
and now I am at peace. Close

We have received your letter from Heaven..... / Dearest Kevin We Received Your Letter From Heaven (We will never forget you. Your family and friends )
We received your letter from Heaven,
it made the teardrops fall.
But knowing you're with GOD above,
sweet memories, we will recall.
We know that you are with us,
for we feel your presence near.
And if we listen closely,
your voice we then can hear.
We know you are watching over us,
as you promised to do.
And when we feel so saddened,
it's your letter that sees us through.
When we lay in bed at night,
the day's chores put to flight,
We truly feel your presence,
like a warm and glowing light.
The rocky roads you mentioned,
and the hills we must climb;
We've done exactly what you said,
We've tried to help others,
who are in sorrow and pain.
And now we are contented,
our day was not in vain.
We'll lend a hand, as you have said
when someone is feeling low.
We'll pray for them and be there,
until on their way they go.
And when it's time for us to go,
to join you in Heaven high,
Our wings we shall spread wide,
to our home up in the sky.

Friendship...../ Jodi Coan (none)
Although I never had the opportunity to know your beloved Kevin, I felt compelled to pay tribute especially after reading the beautiful, heartfelt tributes from his family and friends. I can tell that you feel friendships are a priceless gift, that cannot be bought or sold, it's value is far greater than a mountain of gold. Your most precious gift in life is not diamonds, pearls, or riches but the love of real, true friends. Your friendship with Kevin was a gift that only GOD could send. I wish I could have met Kevin and his wonderful family and friends for you all knew what truly makes a person rich. Your understanding and wisdom of the important things in life are truly an inspiration.
Sincerely, Jodi Lynn Coan Louisville, Ky.

To bring down evil,
some must fall.
To fight for right,
some answer the call.
To help the oppressed,
some give up their time,
their homes, their lives,
they're eagles not doves.
To keep peace
for those in need
some go to wars
of just we read.
To keep us safe,
it's Soldiers we call.
They will all give some
and some will give all.
Thank you 1st Lt.Gaspers for defending FREEDOM
and America. I will always be eternally grateful to you and all the military men and women who risk life and limb every day defending FREEDOM.

GOD BLESS YOU KEVIN / DAVID MCWILLIAMS (MILITARY SCIENCE INSTRUTOR UNIV OF NE WHEN KEVIN WAS A CADET )
I had the pleasure of meeting kevin right after I got to UNL and became the cadre in August of 03. Kevin always was very outgoing and a true soldier at heart. I also remember being at Camp Hastings right before I left UNL and Kevin came to see us on his time off just to spend time with the cadets.
I am currently in Iraq with my home base in Germany and when I heard the news of the death I immendiatly called Kris Hart and my heart sank when I got the information.
He will be missed because he was not only a good soldier but more importantly a good person that truly cared about other.
GOD BLESS YOU KEVIN AND I KNOW YOU GOT MY BACK WHILE I AM HERE IN IRAQ.

Grief is like the wake behind the boat..... / Helen Allen (none)
Grief is like the wake behind the boat. It starts out as a huge wake that follows close behind you and is big enough to swamp and drown you if you suddenly move forward. But if you keep moving, the big wake will eventually dissipate. And after a long enough time, the waters of your life get calm again, and that is when the memories of those who have left, begin to shine as bright and enduring as the stars above. Close

They Don't Wear Purle Hearts in Heaven. / Shenita Usher (none)
I lost my brother to a foreign land;
I was to young to understand.
There was a knock at the door,
then Momma wasn't smiling anymore.
The man at the door was a Army General,
the first I had ever seen.
Momma told me to go out and play,
then the preacher came
and they started to pray.
Tears ran down Momma's eyes,
and I heard her say, " Why, LORD, Why "?
Father stood there seemingly mindless,
all he said was, " We've lost another of
America's finest "
The General handed Momma a small velvet case,
inside was a Purple Ribbon attached to a gold heart with Washington's face.
I asked Momma if it were mine,
but she said, " It's your brother's sunshine."
" Momma can we send if to Kevin? "
She answered, " They don't wear Purple Hearts in Heaven."

Safely Home / I. Am Home In Heaven Dear Ones (me)
I am here in Heaven dear ones,
Oh, so happy and bright !
There is perfect joy and beauty
in His everlasting light.
All the pain and grief is over,
All the restless tossing passed;
I am now at peace forever,
safely home at last.
Did you wonder why I so calmly
trod the Valley of Shade ?
Oh, but Jesus' love illuminated
every dark and fearful glade.
And he come himself to meet me
on that way that was so hard to tread;
and with Jesus' arms to lean on,
could I have any doubt or dread ?
Then you must not grieve so sorely,
for I love you dearly still;
try to look beyond earth's shadows,
pray to trust our Father's will.
There is work still waiting for you,
so you must not idly stand;
do it now while life remains,
you shall rest in Jesus' land.
When the work is all completed,
He will gently call you home;
Oh, the rapture of the meeting,
Oh, the joy to see you come.
Be Yourself. / Marissa Meyer (acquaintenance)Read >>
Be Yourself. / Marissa Meyer (acquaintenance)
Thinking of Kevin today, I thought of the most important thing I learned from him, which was to be yourself. Simply be who you are. No pretenses, no masquerades.
This will sound so much like Kevin. You will most likely agree whole-heartedly. He was always happy just to be himself and to love you and me for you and me.
Why would you want to be someone else ?
When you could be better being yourself.
Why would you pretend to be someone you are not ?
When you have something they haven't got.
Cheating yourself of the life you have to live
deprives others of that only which you can give.
You have much more to offer by just being you
than walking around in someone else's shoes.
Trying to live the life of another is a mistake; nothing more than a fake.
Be yourself and let your qualities shine through
others will love you more for just being you.
Remember that GOD loves you just as you are,
to Him you are already a bright shining star.
Family and friends will love you more too
if you spent time practicing just being you.
Final Inspection. / Linda Regenauer (none)
The soldier stood and faced GOD
which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining
just as bright as his brass.
" Step forward,you Soldier
how shall I deal with you ?
Have you always turned the other cheek ?
To My Church have you been true ?"
The Soldier squared his shoulders and said,
" No LORD I guess, I ain't,
because those of us who carry guns
can't always be saints."
I've had to work on Sundays
and at times my talk was tough,
and sometimes I've been violent,
because the world is awfully rough.
But, I never took a penny
that wasn't mine to keep.
Though I worked a lot of overtime
when the bills got just to steep.
And I never passed a cry for help
though at times I shook with fear,
and sometimes GOD forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.
I know, I don't deserve a place
among the people here.
They never wanted me around
except to calm their fears.
If you've a place for me here,
LORD, it needn't be grand,
I never expected or had too much,
but if you don't, " I'll understand."
There was silence all around the throne
where saints had often trod,
as the Soldier waited quietly
for the Judgement of His GOD.
" Step forward now, you Soldier,
you've borne your burden well.
Walk peacefully on Heaven's streets,
you've done your time in Hell."
Off to War. / Mark Regenauer (none)
Many of our loved ones are off to war.
They leave us behind for distant shores.
They seek out our enemies to even the score.
But some of them we may never see once more.
We give them our thanks and pray each day
for GOD to watch over them while they are away.
We know that they will do their duty for they are brave
to fight those who would make us their slave.
It is the Armed Forces who fight to keep us free.
For they are willing to die for you and me.
They will do their duty until victory is achieved.
If they die (as your brave Kevin did)
their family will surely grieve.
They are my heroes, so young, so brave and true.
Fighting to protect our flag, the red, white and blue.
It is through the American Spirit that is renewed
and Recognition for their sacrifices is long overdue.
Mr. Gaspers, I will always be grateful to you. Grateful that you stood up so I could be free.

I watched the flag pass by one day,
it fluttered in the breeze.
A young Soldier saluted it, and then
he stood at ease.
I looked at him in uniform
so young, so proud
with hair cut into a square and eyes alert
he'd stand out in a crowd.
I thought how many men like him
had fallen through the years.
How many died on foreign soil ?
How many mother's tears ?
How many pilot's planes shot down ?
How many foxholes were soldier's graves ?
No Freedom isn't free.
I heard the sound of TAPS one night,
when everything was still.
I heard the bugler play
and felt a sudden chill.
I wondered how many times
that TAPS meant " Amen "
when a flag had draped a coffin
of a brother or friend.
I thought of all the children,
of the mothers and wives,
of fathers, sons, sisters, brothers, friends,
aunts, uncles and cousins with interrupted lives.
I thought about a graveyard at the edge of town,
your beloved Kevin that you would no longer see, and all the graves of fallen soldiers across the U.S.A. that to their families they can no longer say,
I love and miss you each and every day.
No Freedom isn't free.

Your love is a reminder
of my Easter's long ago.
A child looking for a basket,
searching high and low.
It seemed so difficult to find,
yet Mom and Dad you would never tell.
You said "Appreciation is the greater,
finding something hidden well."
That lesson has always stuck with me,
as I patiently searched for you.
At times the road was difficult,
to where I journeyed to.
You are the Easter Basket,
that GOD tucked away.
I do appreciate your love,
each passing day. Close
